Jo Churchill Agricultural Excellence & A New Hospital

Agriculture has been the backbone of Suffolk's economy for centuries, and the Suffolk Show epitomises our region's commitment to this industry. It embodies the spirit of our rural communities and highlights the immense contribution made by our farmers and producers to our way of life.

This year's event was nothing short of exceptional, offering a fabulous platform to exhibit prized livestock, sell local produce, display innovative farming techniques, and share knowledge with the wider community. Highlighting both the traditional and the high-tech world of agriculture.

From award-winning cheeses, meats, and oils to locally made textiles and gifts, there was something for everyone. A strong emphasis is placed on educating young people about agriculture, farming and the environment. The Suffolk Show is renowned for its interactive exhibits, giving children the chance to get close to farm animals and equipment to learn more about the origins of their food, and gain a greater appreciation for the hard work that goes into bringing it to their plates.

Supporting our farmers and maintaining a strong agricultural sector is crucial to our region, and the Suffolk Show plays a vital role in networking, knowledge-sharing, and fostering a sense of community. Catching up with constituents, businesses, and organisations it was inspiring to hear about the innovative practices being adopted, showcasing Suffolk as a pioneer in sustainable farming and food production. There were many other educational stands such as Suffolk New College and the VENI Skills Academy team, with plenty of future and new careers advice on offer, and some great cooking demonstrations by local chefs and ICE of Rougham.

Through these conversations and collaborations, we can foster an environment that nurtures and supports our rural economy, ensuring the prosperity and safeguarding of our heritage and countryside for generations to come. Trade stands a plenty gave me a chance to catch up with several local businesses. Whilst, families enjoyed the Suffolk Wildlife area with activities that get better and better each year.

I would like to thank the Suffolk Agricultural Association for hosting another great event. The continued success of the show serves as a remarkable testament to the hard work and dedication of all those involved. Why not plan a visit next year?

Bury St Edmunds MP Jo Churchill welcomes transformative £20 billion Government investment in hospitals, and further commitment to deliver a new fully funded West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

This fantastic announcement marks the culmination of a sustained 8-year campaign. Many visits over the years, conversations with staff and residents, showed that our new hospital was needed for a growing town, and because ours was showing her age. Despite government investment along the way, the need has grown, as has the shared vision. I have pushed, as people have asked, to make sure we are front of the queue and our case has been recognised. I am incredibly proud of what we have done together so far, through passion and repeatedly driving home the need we have locally, to government, the local council, and other stakeholders.

The green shoots were seen in March 2020 when the Department of Health approved the business case, confirming West Suffolk Hospital as one of the 40 new hospitals to be built under the New Hospital Programme. Now, with funding allocated, this 21st century build will be an exemplar blueprint hospital under the Hospital 2.0 programme, for others to follow. We are the first to use this new approach to building hospitals for our communities and look forward to leading the way.

Our hospital and staff are special and Bury has always offered excellent care. Now we can look forward to this being delivered in world-class facilities as we are first in line, serving as an exemplar hospital for others to follow. I look forward to breaking ground
