Matt Hancock MP talks about Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour

Last month a really cutting-edge exhibition has come to Suffolk - and I’d really recommend you see it if you can. I was lucky enough to be invited to the premier of this exhibition - called "Mutiny in Colour” which showcased world renowned artists. I went to the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket, to find a big chunk of wall that has a Banksy on it, as well as pieces from Damien Hurst, Tracey Emin and a whole host of other modern artists. It’s being displayed in Moyse's Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds and the Haverhill Arts Centre too.

As I stepped into the exhibition room at the Newmarket Horseracing Museum, I was immediately struck by the thought-provoking and stunning artworks on display. From Banksy's wonderful "Hula Hoop Girl" to the unique Citroen Berlingo van decorated with two hundred eyes by My Dog Sighs, every artwork reflected the creative artistic expression of each artist. It’s amazing to see really famous artworks right here in Suffolk.

I love the fact that the exhibition is running simultaneously across three locations, so art enthusiasts, curious individuals and people of all ages have the chance to immerse themselves in this celebration of contemporary art.

What truly sets this exhibition apart is the interest it brings to visitors from outside West Suffolk. Art lovers are coming from far and wide, with some coming as far as the US and Scandinavia, just to witness the Mutiny in Colour exhibition. The global demand for this exhibition not only reflects the global reputation of the artists involved but also provides a much-needed boost to the local economy following the pandemic. Accommodation providers, cafés, bars, and restaurants will experience a rise in activity, benefiting from the increased footfall brought by the exhibition's attendees.

From what I’ve seen, the response has been very positive and people are proud to have such an impressive art exhibition on show here. While I was at the opening, it was great to see people from all walks of life come to experience and enjoy the exhibition.

As Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour continues to be on show throughout West Suffolk, I strongly encourage those reading this to check this unique exhibition out for yourself. Tickets for Urban Frame: Mutiny in Colour can be purchased at the following locations: Haverhill Arts Centre (15th July to 12th September 2023), the National Horseracing Museum (3rd June to 1st October 2023), and Moyse's Hall Museum (3 June-1 October)
