Jo Churchill talks about helping young people see the workings of parliament & politics

Recent events in politics have been tumultuous, yet beyond this backdrop work continues in my office as usual to ensure that the priorities of all those living and working in the Bury St Edmunds constituency are met.
I always welcome a wide cross section of views from the residents I represent, and I believe an important part of transparent and democratic representation is face to face engagement.
As exams end and the summer holidays approach, many local young people are considering their futures as they prepare to leave school.Every year, I aim to open both my constituency and Westminster offices up to students who want to better understand politics, the role of a constituency MP and the workings of parliament.
Throughout the year there are the opportunities to visit Westminster for tours and to take part in events such as UK Parliament Week. So far this month I have had the pleasure to welcome 6 local students from schools across the Bury St Edmunds constituency to Westminster for parliamentary visits and work experience. Here they have seen first-hand a day in the life of a Member of Parliament and their team. As no two days are the same in my busy Westminster office, it was an opportunity for students to see the varied work I do such as writing correspondence, attending visits and meetings, and speaking in the chamber.
I look forward to welcoming more young people from across the constituency to my office for future visits.
