It’s 2022 and as I write this, everything and anything that you can think of is increasing in price and sadly holidays are no exception. But if there is one thing that everyone deserves at least once a year is a break from their everyday life. A change of scenery or be able to look at a different set of walls is all we need sometimes to feel refreshed and ready to fight another day. So yes, holidays are becoming a luxury item, but they really don’t need to be if you are prepared to do your homework – or let a travel agent do it for you! If you are happy to leave behind the normal tourist traps that everyone wants to go to and explore parts of the world that not many people have thought about yet, then you can still pick up some bargains and keep to the tight budget that you may have in the current climate.
Here are my top 5 holiday destinations on a budget. They may need a bit more research before you book them, but they are definitely places in the world that have plenty to give the adventurous explorer:
1. Vietnam
Vietnam is amongst one of the cheapest Asian countries, and it has to be said probably one of the most underrated as well! If you stay away from the big tourist hotspots and stick to the more authentic places you will be able to stick to a very small budget. If you eat locally you will struggle to spend more than a few dollars per meal, and it is mainly all healthy. For the drinkers amongst you, locally brewed beer will set you back a massive $0.20 a glass!! Accommodation is pleasant and probably one of the most affordable in the world.
2.Indonesia
When you think of Indonesia most people will name the resort island of Bali but, stretching wider than the US, Indonesia has so much more to discover. Try visiting Bali’s neighbouring islands of Lombok or Java as your budget will stretch a lot further there. If it’s white sandy beaches, jungles, rainforests where you can meet the resident orangutans or savannahs you are looking to enjoy on your holiday, then Indonesia has it all.
3. Cuba
If you are looking to step back in time, then Cuba is your ideal holiday hotspot. With vintage cars still driving through the streets you will be in for a unique experience – but a good one, I’m sure! Sitting as the most budget friendly Caribbean Island out there, Cuba has so much to offer from salsa clubs, carnivals, picture perfect beaches and the warm Caribbean Sea. Many people say that if you are going to visit Cuba it needs to be soon before it changes and becomes modernised, so what are you waiting for?
4. Prague
Prague sits at the top of the leader board as one of Europe’s cheapest capital cities to visit. Crammed full of history, the city is perfect for exploring by foot and is known for it’s cheaper than water beer, although prices have increased over the last couple of years. If you venture just beyond Prague itself, you will be able to experience the true Czech culture and at a much lower rate. Head towards Cesky Krumlov or Telc and eat locally to see a good hearty meal cost around £10pp.
5. Morocco
Just a short flight from the UK, Morocco is possible to do on a budget. As long as you steer clear of the pushy rug sellers and organised trips and go it alone you will be able to discover the real Morocco at half the price. Morocco is also home to the seaside resort of Agadir, with an all-inclusive week, including flights, setting you back in the region of £500pp when average temperatures are at a pleasant 26C. With six-mile-long sandy beaches and restaurant lined promenades, Agadir has it all, even golf courses for those that like to relax with a round of golf while on holiday.
There are many other destinations that could quite easily have featured on this list but it is all about doing your research, don’t just assume you have to pick tourist hotspots in order to enjoy a holiday on a limited budget.
